Tab 4
Legal Papers
This is the legal tab. Wayfinder does not create legal documents. Real legal papers have to be signed, sometimes witnessed, sometimes notarised, and that is the job of an attorney, a service, or a free form from your state attorney general’s website. What this tab does is walk you through the decisions each document requires, so that when you sit down with an attorney or a form, you already know what you want. It also gives you a place to record a summary and where the signed original lives, never the original itself.
Important
If none of these documents exist for you yet, that is normal. This is the tab most people put off longest. Work through it at whatever pace is yours. A weekend or a year, both are fine.
Lets someone you name make money decisions on your behalf if you cannot: pay bills, manage accounts, talk to your bank.
Durable matters. A non-durable POA ends the moment you become incapacitated, which is exactly when you would need it most. If you have one or want one, it should be durable.
Do you already have a signed durable POA?
Current status
A POA more than five to seven years old is worth reviewing. Some banks get skeptical of very old ones, and attorneys occasionally update recommended language.
